Prelude

I went to Sweden a few months ago, It really was beautiful, I never thought there could be any sight as beautiful as the ones I saw there, the snow filled country side and the beautiful view of the town of Gränna from the lake Vättern, however I noticed something that threw me off from ever wanting to visit again, it's people. Over the years I have learnt that European people do not care about the problems of the outside world, and really very few people in the world care about the problems of other countries, simply because they don't hear about it on the news, or it doesn't affect them, so why should I go to a country that doesn't care about me, when it is my duty as a citizen of my country to fight for this one?

What finally got me to start writing this book was a scene I witnessed at my school on January 16th 2024, I was going to the library, when I saw the space which was above it alone, something which I hadn't seen in the 2 years I had been there, the next day it was the same thing and I knew why, everyone there had gona to an exchange program to another country in hopes of fleeing this one, I call all those people traitors and cowards, I am not meaning to say I am not guilty of this, as I also went to a short exchange program last semester, but I never meant to stay there forever, in fact it convinced me even more that I shouldn't move to another country, because why should I add manpower to a country that already has already solved all of its issues except for low population growth?

The people who do that sort of thing arent poor, they aren't in any dangerous situation and they are the people with the highest chances of fixing the country, sadly very few people think this way, and sadly I don't believe I can influence a large number of people to think this way, but I will die happily if I can only influence 1 person to try and save this country, and I hope that person can actually influence enough people.

If you're the only person who cares for their country, then your duty is to make other people care for it.

I also want to clear up that this book will be written in English because of the language's universal reach, I want to spread this stage of this country's history to as many people as possible, I am tired of other countries being ignorant of my country's problems, Im sure a lot of countries feel the same way, so if anyone from another meaningless country is reading this, I want to encourage that person to also do something similar for their country.

I also want to say that while I will present my opinions and interpretations of the events portrayed here I will also present to you the facts, I will tell you exactly what happened leaving no event or piece of eveidence behind, history has to be presented as facts to truly understand the present.

Chapter 1, the 2024 elections

The 2024 elections were set to be held on June 2nd, where 3 candidates would compete, Claudia Sheimbaum from the ruling MORENA Party, Xochitl Galvez from the bigger Opposing parties coalition, and Jorge Maynez from the independent Movimiento Ciudadano (Citizen Movement) Party, however the real competition was only between Sheimbaum and Xochitl, and to understand why these elections were so important we have to go back 6 years when the then president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO for short) took power.

When the elections period of 2018 first started AMLO quickly gained popularity as a socialist leader, he promised to give more money to old people, and to establish several social welfare programs to help empoverished people however there were a lot of things going against him, his association with the Sinaloa cartel (which later in his presidency was proven to be true) was one of the main ones, nonetheless he won that year's elections, some people thaught he was going to "Leave the country like Venezuela", some thaught he was going to fix it, but a lot more people thaught that he wouldn't really do anything, 6 years passed and there were a lot of controversial events during this time period, the one that I remember the most was the scandal with the INE, Instituto Nacional Electoral (Nacional Electoral Institute), at some point during AMLO's presidency he started trying to pass reforms to this institution, protests erupted all across the country but the biggest ones were in the capital right in front of the national palace, with the motto "El INE no se toca", The INE won't be touched, however these protests didn't work, I remember very clearly when this happened, I was in the car with my dad, we had the news on as this was happening, and the guy who gave the news announced "Everyone was protesting about this, with the motto The INE won't be touched, but well...the INE WAS touched, as the reforms to this institution have just been passed", some consider that this was the end of democracy in Mexico, however we won't be really able to prove this until the next elections.

Others of AMLO's most controversial moves were during the 2020 Pandemic, were for a while he just said that everything was fine, when more people started being infected he didn't really do anything to prevent the disease, he just adviced everyone to stay home and wear masks.

When the vaccines first started being developed he ordered some of the Cuban vaccines, this was mostly to show support for neighboring "Socialist" regimes, however the public health organizations in the country sometimes didn't give the vaccine properly, sometimes what was in the shot was just water, and in the worst cases nothing, in response to these cases what a lot of the Middle class and above Mexicans did was to go to the US to get vaccinated, I also did this myself and I knew several people who did, but of course a lot of other Mexicans weren't able to do this, a lot of them died, but a lot were also able to survive.

After the pandemic things mostly went back to normal, because the elections were relatively near, Claudia Sheimbaum had to start gaining more popularity to continue the rule of the ruling party.

There weren't many more highlights from AMLO's presidency, except the thing about the Sinaloa cartel, In the first half of 2024 a book called "La historia secreta" or "The secret story" was published, describing every association that AMLO had made with the Cartel, some believed the book and others didn't, however the event that happened slightly before the book was published simply couldnt be denied, that event was AMLO meeting with El Chapo's mother, the implications of this speak for themselves, and he tried to brush it off as her inviting him for something and he simply not being able to say no.

With all these events the 2024 elections were drawing near, and the first presidential debate sparked thousands of political debates over the internet, some of the highlights of this debate were: Sheimbaum presenting a box full of evidence about the "stolen" 2006 elections, Xochitl showing a Mexican flag upside down and then refusing to admit it was a mistake, and Maynez having that stupid yet hilarious smile throughout the entire thing.

If you went to any online forum about Mexican politics after the first presidential debate you'd see a lot of very creative insults about both the major parties, some of my favorites were "PANdejos", (the word "Pendejo" is a vulgar expression to say idiot in spanish, and PAN was the leading opposition party in the coalition), MORENAco (Naco is a word that can be roughly translated to a person who is overall unpleasant to be around, is rude, doesnt have modals etc.

As for my position, I personally supported the opposition parties, but every day I saw what my family (Who was also pro opposition) said or did that made me ahsamed of my stance, both my parents were convinced that the opposition would win, they said that everyone they saw on Twitter was pro opposition and everyone at their work was pro opposition and the opposition would win, and I somewhat believed them, until I saw my father see a pro MORENA post on Twitter and blocking that account, they simply didnt get any ruling party propaganda because the algorithm knew that they didnt like seeing it, this restored my belief that the ruling party would win.

Other things that made me want to turn sides was my father yelling at delivery people over the phone because he wasn't there to get his delivery, refusing to donate to charities because he thought they were scams, even after I did a ton of research and proved to him that they weren't scams, using stupid arguments in political discussions, and as for my mother...Well if I started talking about what my mither did this book would turn into a book about her.

But finally, the promised Sunday had arrived, on June 2nd 2024 the Mexican people excersiced their right to vote in the biggest and most violent election that had ever taken place in the history of the country, most polls gave a 50/50 chance of either of the main candidates winning, my family (Not me because I was 15 at the time) also went to vote, I took some pictures of the giant lines that had been formed, in the day I saw a man with a MORENA t shirt get the entry to the voting booth denied because you couldnt carry any propaganda in that day, when we got to my grandmas house she turned on the news and 2 men in a motorcycle had stolen 1kg of ballots, but the people themselves got on their motorcycles and stopped them, I followed the entire electoral process by myself, I had a tv broadcast on the background while I watched the INE site do the quick counting, both of the main candidates were saying that the elections were already won by them, at around 6PM the results started being uploaded, and as expected both main candidates were almost tied, with Claudia Sheimbaum leading a slight, and I mean less than 1% slight advantage, that was however until 10:11 PM, a few minutes ago the opposition party started taking the lead, with a still very miniscule percentage, but it was a lead, until at that very hour the INE site "Suffered a cyberattack".

The thing took a fine while getting back online, at 11:39PM they said that the preeliminary results were supposed to be given an hour ago, a few minutes later one of the news anchors I was watching said that he had someone who worked in the INE, and that the reason the results were taking so long to be published was because the results were too different from the polls made before.

Finally however, at 11:51PM they announced that in exactly 50 seconds, they would announce who the winner of the elections was, and indeed they did, at around 1AM on June 3rd, it was announced that the next president of Mexico would be Claudia Sheimbaum from the ruling party.

Depending on who you voted for, the feeling on June 3rd was one of great pessimism or extreme optimism, for me however...I wasn't sure what to feel, I had enough of a bad opinion on both candidates and their fanbases to feel somewhat apathetic to the situation, something that interested me however was the possibility of an election fraud.

While most people kept on their daily lives after the initial optimism or pessimism passed, some people started claiming that there was election fraud, the final results of the elections was 59% Claudia Sheimbaum, 27% Xochitl and 10% Maynez, very different from the polls, some people on reddit started to claim that they had seen filled election ballots on a trash can, and videos started surfacing about alleged vote buying, others including myself started to link this event with the 1988 "system shutdown" Where candidate Cuauhtemoc Cárdenas, son of beloved president Lázaro Cárdenas who was responsible for stabilizing the country after the revolution was almost sure to win the elections, in the election night he had a huge lead over the ruling party candidate, until the election counting system "failed" and the results stopped being updated, a few hours later they were back and the ruling party candidate now had a huge lead over Cárdenas, as a consolation prize for Cárdenas he was given the position of chief of government, first ever chief of government in Mexico actually.

But really the matter was left there, everyone kept on going with their lives, AMLO rushed to get as many reforms approved before the end of his term, including one to one of the main powers of the country, where now the people would vote for the judicial judges which caused a lot of protests and controversy, and finally, on October 1st 2024 Claudia Sheimbaum took power as the first Woman president of Mexico.

First 100 days of Claudia Sheimbaum

For the most part things stayed the same after Sheimbaum took power, however there were some notable changes, first what I interpreted as "Sheimbaum's purge", around November of 2024 National Guard, Police and Army performed "Operación Enjambre" or "Swarm operation" In the State of Mexico, where a lot of public officials were arrested for links to drug cartels, I remember seeing a video of the army raiding the office of one of them, they sorrounded him, considered him under arrest and 2 soldiers were left to watch him, the soldier recording the video left to check another room, a gunshot was heard, it didn´t come from one of the soldiers but from the official, he preferred to commit suicide than to go to jail, a lot of profile drug lords started to be arrested, signaling a policy change from the new government, instead of AMLO´s famous policy of "Abrazos no balazos", "Hugs not gunshots" Sheimbaum started taking a more decisive approach, this may have also been influenced by the election results in the United States of America
