Im gonna give you a bit of context here, these elections are VERY important if we want to keep our democracy, if the ruling party wins again then our democracy will be dead basically, if the opposition wins then our democracy will live for another 6 years, however, if the ruling party wins again, I will be able to succesfully stage my coup in 2030 or 2036, epending on my influence at the time.
So, today I was woken up at 6 am, we drove to where we had to vote and we voted, I still couldnt vote cause underage but there were a lot more people voting than usual.
I will be sure to pdate this with more information as it comes out.
Even before the vote counting began both of the main candidates were saying that they already won lmao.
Currently the candidate for the current ruling party is winning, however, theyve counted less than 1% of the votes, so everyones saying take this with a grain of salt.
This is also a bit sus cause the ruling party candidate is winning in literally every state lmao, so this could mean that 1: Our democracy is already fucked, or 2, the votes thing, because yeah, around 40 thousand votes have been counted for Mexico City, but there are 8 million people living here.
9:31PM The tables mayyyy be turning, the ruling party candidate just lost some percetage and the opposition party won that percntage, but again, too early to really tell.
10:11PM Apparently the electoral institute, the institute that counts the votes, just got hacked? wtf? so the results arent updating now
You know, there were rumors that the CIA or something would get involved in the elections, I wouldn't be surprised if this was them really.
Also, the oppostion just won 1 state over the ruling party, not much but again, the tables mayy be turning.
One of the reporters talking about stats and search tearms pronounced emojis as eMOjis not emoJIS lmaooooo
10:51PM Some guy in the comments just said "Greetings from Venezuela pls dont let your country become a dictatorship like here, Viva Mexico"
11:39PM Lmao the preeliminatory results were supposed to be officially given an hour ago, but the results are apparently realllly tight.
11:43PM one of the news guys Im watching says the he has someone inside the institution that counts the votes that says that the reason they havent given the preeliminary results is because theyre too different from the polls they had done before the elections, apparently this is not really confirmed but...interesting...
Also, apparently the hack was just a ddos attack, which couldve also been just a fuck ton of people entering the site, so no CIA intervention...for now...
11:51PM In exactly 50 seconds theyll give the preeliminatory results
lmao they still put the fucking intro in the fucking announcement
11:55PM They said the ruling party is winning, however, again, it is too early to tell, I think theyre still below 20% of the votes counted.
Well comrades, in the end the ruling party won, they say the elections were rigged, that they found election ballots in the trash but I haven't seen a lot of evdence for that, but well, this event effectively ends democracy in Mexico, we still lasted longer than Russia though, we lasted 24 years and they just lasted 12, however this is just another event in our long list of tragedies, which Mexico is no stranger too.
Our entire country itself was formed by tragedies, we fought an 11 year war for independence against the spanish and we were losing all along, it was until a Spanish general changed sides to help us that we were able to win, even then we never really won, all of who you could call our "Founding fathers" died in the war, the last one was betrayed by this Spanish general who only wanted personal glory, and he created the First Mexican Empire, we emerged as an Empire for a Spanish man, not as a republic for the Mexican people.
After he died we finally got our democracy which lasted for a bit, until the French takeover, and the rule of Maximilian of Habsburg, the second Mexican Empire, after we overthrew him a dictator took his place, Porfirio Diaz, and this is where it starts to become evident that Mexico wasn't made for a democracy, he ruled for almost 30 years, but in those 30 years there was quick and steady progress, the Mexican peso was worth just as much as the US dollar, and yes, he was a shitty person who exploited workers, but there was progress.
His rule ended with a revolution where once again, all heroes died and it turned into a 20 year civil war, until 1936 when Lazaro Cardenas took power, he stabilized the country and was able to become somewhat of a hero himself, this popularity gave the ruling party of the time a way to easily be reelected, in their reelection they took absolute power, the 20 year civil war that was just fought was in the end worth for almost nothing because another "democratic" party became just another dictatorship.
But in the rule of this new party, there was once again, progress, and the country was relatively stable, that was until the 1986 earthquake which destroyed almost the entirety of Mexico city, the economy took a steep dive, and the international community basically ignored the situation, the UN sent boxes of mislabeled and expired medicines which we didn't even need, however this event was also a turning point in the politics of the country.
In the year 2000, this new dictatorship party, the PRD went through a very big transformation, and it created the INE, an institue that would make and regulate presidential and other elections, the people who were working in the PRD mostly left and went to form other parties, the biggest one being Morena, a party that labels itself as revolutionary, and equalitarian for everyone, but in the end because this party was made by old members of the PRD they are just another dictatorship party, during the rule of the PRD of course they also did some shitty things, the student massacre of 1968 stands out, until 2018 they had failed to gain any substantial support from the people, but they won the 2018 elections, and so far theyve tried to take full control of politics in the country, which they were basically succesful in in these elections, the best case scenario now is that the new president doesnt follow the old presidents cult of personality and tries to make her own version of the country.
But in the end, history will repeat itself, eventually theyll lose enough support that they themselves see its necessary to make elections again, or there will be another revolution to overthrow them, but only time will tell.
